Jonesboro Open extends partnership with Prodiscus

Jonesboro, Arkansas: The Jonesboro Open and Prodiscus announced on January 2 they will continue their partnership to bring elite, professional disc golf to Northeast, Arkansas. The second iteration of the Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus will be April 6-8, 2018 at the Disc Side of Heaven Championship Course and will be the third stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.

The Jonesboro Open was started by Tournament Director, Brad Pietz, who looked to bring an elite level disc golf tournament to the state of Arkansas. The inaugural Jonesboro Open saw 143 disc golfers travel to Jonesboro including 54 of the top professional men and 12 of the top professional women tackle the challenging Disc Side of Heaven course. Ricky Wysocki took home $2,500 as the inaugural open champion and Paige Pierce won $1,350 as the women’s champion.

“It was truly a vision come to life last year as the world’s best players came to Jonesboro to play on a course that we created,” Pietz said.  “Prodiscus was a huge part of the success and I am very happy to have them back on board as we share a common goal of making this tournament one of the best on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.”

Prodiscus was founded in Finland by current Owner and C.E.O., Kai Vesa, and has continued to expand its growth beyond Europe and into the United States. Prodiscus representative, Baker Helton, shares his excitement on the continued partnership with the Jonesboro Open.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with the Jonesboro Open for 2018. We continue to believe that this can be a premier event on tour and we are proud to be part of the continued growth of the event,” Helton said. “2017 showed that this event can be a success and with Prodiscus and the Jonesboro Open working together, we believe that this event will keep getting better with each passing year. This event is a key part of our plan to expand the Prodiscus brand in the United States and we expect 2018 to be a marquee year for the Prodiscus brand.”

As part of the agreement, The Disc Side of Heaven Championship Course will be upgraded with additional shortened Prodiscus turf teepads to improve the course for female competitors.

Tournament History

The Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus has roughly the same history as so many other great tournaments… One guys idea to do something big!

I first played disc golf at the age of 12 with my dad at Shreveport’s famed Clyde Fant Parkway, the first course in the state of Louisiana.  From that first time, I have always taken disc golf with me through college and around the country as my career moved me from place to place.

Fast forward to 2007 when I first moved to Jonesboro.  We had one course and in 2007 the course was grown up and not a lot of fun to play.  Now that course, Craighead Forest Park has 27 holes and is in great shape thanks to the Jonesboro Disc Golf Club and we have 36 more holes at Disc Side of Heaven.  The Championship Course from the very beginning was designed to bring the best players in the world to Jonesboro… and in 2017 we did just that!

The Jonesboro Open is a group effort by way too many people to name here, but we have a long ways to go!  We want you to come be a part of it as a player, as a volunteer or as a spectator.  The 2017 Jonesboro Open was a huge success and 2018 is going to be bigger and better.

Come play!   Come watch!
