JONESBORO, ARK – The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) is back underway across the nation and the rescheduled Play It Again Sports Jonesboro Open – Powered by Prodigy – is preparing to host a full field of the best players in the country on October 1-3.
The Tour hit pause on Friday, March 13 in the middle of an event in Waco, Texas and restarted on June 26 in Emporia, Kansas. The Jonesboro Open, originally scheduled for April 15-17, was moved to the first week in October to accommodate other tour stops. The fourth year event will now serve as the last Pro Tour stop before the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championships on October 16-18 in Charlotte, North Carolina as well as the last tournament to qualify for the United States Disc Golf Championship (USDGC) on October 7-10.
The Disc Golf Pro Tour worked relentlessly to put together a full 10-stop regular tour and keeping the Jonesboro Open on the 2020 calendar was a priority for the Pro Tour. A slight change to the professional disc golf tournament is the rescheduled event will start on Thursday and finish on Saturday. This change was necessary to give players more time to travel from Jonesboro to Rock Hill, South Carolina to prepare for the USDGC.
Tournament Director Brad Pietz says, “Officially, the Jonesboro Open is under Phase 1 of the Disc Golf Pro Tour guidelines for spectators, but we are planning and hoping for the best. With the current state of events in Arkansas, I believe we will have spectators on the course for the Jonesboro Open. We will announce the full details two weeks prior to the event.”
Pietz also added, “I want to thank all of our sponsors. We could not do it without them and with the uncertainty 2020 has brought, every one of the key sponsors have kept their commitment to the new date.” At this time all major sponsors are accounted for, but the tournament is still seeking hole sponsors.
