JONESBORO OPEN ADDS MORE SPACE FOR FPO
February 7, 2019
Officials from the Disc Golf Pro Tour and the 2019 Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus have announced a slight change in the format. The Female Professional Open (FPO) division has reached capacity with more than two months remaining before the tournament causing officials to add more tee times to the FPO field.
Play was originally set to begin at 7:54 a.m. (Central) but has now been bumped up to 7:30 a.m. to satisfy demand in the FPO division. In 2017 the inaugural Jonesboro Open had just 12 women compete for the championship; in 2018 the field grew to 15. Now, still two months away from tournament time, 24 women from fourteen different states and one from Canada have entered the competition. The original capacity was 24, but the Jonesboro Open has now expanded to 32.
“What a wonderful problem to have?!” exclaimed Steve Dodge, Director of the Disc Golf Pro Tour. “This is very exciting for the third year.” Brad Pietz, Tournament Director of the Jonesboro Open added, “Last season we maxed out at 104 on the men’s side and expanded it to 124 this year. I hoped we would get close to 24 on the ladies’ side, but to get there this quickly is very exciting indeed.”
This is the fourth season of the Disc Golf Pro Tour and the third year for the Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus. The tournament will be held April 12-14, 2019, at the Disc Side of Heaven Championship Course near RidgePointe Country Club.
