Jonesboro Open Continues Preparation

Jonesboro, ARK- The 2018 Disc Golf Pro Tour is set to get underway in Scottsdale, Arizona next week and organizers in Jonesboro are preparing for the Jonesboro Open April 6-8.  Professional disc golfers will compete during the three day tournament.  They will play three rounds on one of the longest courses on the Pro Tour located in southwest Jonesboro.

After the Memorial Tournament in Arizona, the Pro Tour visits Waco, Texas before coming to northeast Arkansas.  As of February 23, the Jonesboro Open will see players compete from 29 different states, Canada, Germany and Finland.  Tournament Director Brad Pietz states that was one of his original goals, “We will host players from around the globe right here in Jonesboro.  All eyes of the disc golf world will be watching to see what type of show we can produce.”  Pietz added, “Each year other cities are trying to get these large events to their community; we are very lucky to have one here.”

Many local, national and international companies have partnered with the tournament to enhance the efforts.  Prodiscus, a disc golf manufacturer in Finland, is once again the Presenting Sponsor.  They chose Jonesboro to help get their brand more visible in the US.  Centennial Bank, Cromwell and Jonesboro Coca-Cola have all agreed to be Naming Sponsors.  East Arkansas Broadcasters, KJNB-TV, Lyon’s NEA Trophy, Artents, Jonesboro Cycle & ATV, Bennett’s Landscaping and Sunbelt Equipmenthave all donated goods and/or services to the event.  The Jonesboro A&P Commission also helps fund the tournament.

As the tournament grows, the Jonesboro Open could host as many as 250 professional and amateur players.  “We have already surpassed last year’s pro numbers and expectations are high.” Pietz said.  Many of the professional athletes will arrive days before the tournament for practice rounds prior to the first round on Friday.  There are several activities being planned for the players including a Memphis style BBQ dinner hosted by the Jonesboro Elk’s Lodge on Thursday, a Player’s Party Friday night at the Brickhouse and a glow-in-the-dark round of disc golf Saturday night.

There are several ways for you to be involved in the event.  Additional sponsors are needed to help make the Jonesboro Open one of the best events on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.  Volunteers are also needed to help run the event.  Just as important is for the community to come out and watch these men and women who are the very best on the planet play.  Jonesboro should be very proud to have them here and we need to make it known we want them back.

The Jonesboro Open is held at Disc Side of Heaven disc golf course, located just north of RidgePointe Country Club.  Competition will begin at 8:30 each morning and continue all day.  The leaders will tee off at 3:00 each afternoon.
